This course is specifically designed for safety ministry personnel and security team members. In today’s world, we must remain vigilant and prepared to address threats to our sanctuary and community wherever we gather. The use of weapons for societal protection has been documented throughout history, and it is our responsibility to ensure that we practice safe and responsible training and education. This course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of safe firearm handling in close or crowded environments.

Topics Covered:

  • Practicing and training as you would be dressed and equipped at your post.
  • Training to draw and shoot accurately under stress with your carry equipment.
  • Training to move into position for a clear shot without endangering others.
  • Identifying potential threats BEFORE it is too late.
  • Safely manipulating your firearm in a close-quarters environment.
  • Reloading your firearm.
  • Clearing malfunctions in your firearm.
  • Rescuing injured victims to a safe position.
  • Working effectively with law enforcement responders enhances your team’s efficiency in getting help.

Welcome Letter and Important Information for your course.

THE FIRST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN ARRIVING ON THE RANGE: Please keep all firearms in their cases or holsters until we are on the firing line. For everyone’s safety, we will commit to NOT handling guns for any reason unless on the firing line.

FACILITIES: Ben Avery has restrooms.

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING:

Each range day, we suggest team members bring the same gear every time to build good habits that will help them succeed. After every range session, reset and restock your bag and clean your firearms and gear. If you do not have these items, it’s okay. Bring what you have.

  • Clothing you will use at Church! No tactical clothes unless you work in them.
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes (hiking shoes or sneakers).
  • Ball cap, hat with a visor or brim.
  • Sunscreen, plenty of water, snacks, and any necessary medications.
  • 2 Sets of eye pro, including prescription, and 2 sets of ear pro.
  • Tools, batteries, and user manual for your pistol.
  • A small First Aid Kit with a T.Q. (tourniquet)
  • Notepad and something to write with.

FIREARMS: Please bring the following:

  • A safe, reliably functioning Semi-Auto pistol. (If you need to borrow a pistol, please let us know.)
  • 200+ rounds of FMJ ammo (If you need to purchase ammo, please let us know the caliber)
  • 2 or 3 magazines

HOLSTERS:

Please bring your own, or we can provide one, depending on the gun.

BELT:

Good quality leather or nylon belt, 1.5 to 2 inches wide.

SCHEDULE:

We will start with a brief introduction on housekeeping issues, sign-in, and safety briefing. After that, we will discuss our goals and inspect your gear. Our top priority is to create a safe training environment while evaluating your gun handling, accuracy, and safety. We will maintain a relaxed yet challenging pace. Our second goal is to have fun! Finally, we will have a quick debrief to go over your class experience. We’re excited to see you there.
